• Updated Candidates/Tonight's Elections

  Hello Pelham Gardens Middle School Parents!

   

  Tonight is the night for the expedited Parent Association elections. We are excited to provide an update on the current candidates for the executive board of the parent association.

  •  Sixth grade parent, Rosemary Wanzer for Secretary.

  •  Seventh grade parent, Venica Heath for Treasurer.

  •  Seventh grade parent and 2021-2022 PA President, Dejonnay Pettaway for President.

  •  Sixth grade parent, Medine Kabore for Vice-President.

  This election will help shape the future of our school and determine the success of the parent association for this year. So, join us tonight at 6pm for the elections.

  There is still time to register for the elections, complete the nomination form and add your name to the ballot for Secretary, Treasurer, President or even vice-president.

   

  Also, we still need an election chairperson to facilitate the elections. If we do not have an election chairperson, we cannot conduct the elections. So, if you are not running for a position on the PA executive board, please consider volunteering for election chairperson.

  Hello PGMS Parents. 

  We have picked up a lot of steam for the expedited PA elections on Thursday.  Our current candidates/nominees are as follows:

• Don't Forget To Vote Today and Thursday at the PA Elections

  IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL PGMS PARENTS

   

  With our expedited elections coming up on Thursday, November 10, 2022 @ 6:00pm, it is imperative that you understand the importance of voting for the PA Executive Board Members and also why you should run for a position on the executive board of the parent association.

   

  THE IMPORTANCE

  Having a fully elected and functional executive board and an active parent association is how the City of New York gauges parent involvement in our school and decides on funding for the students.  

   

  If we do not elect an executive board and parents are not participating in the parent association, this will have a negative effect on our school, and we will lose funding.

   

   

   

  WHY YOU SHOULD RUN FOR A POSITION ON THE BOARD
  

  1. You will be the voice of the parents and have the authority to address parental concerns and issues to the school administration and in the district.
  2. You will serve as part of the governing body of our Parent Association.
  3. You will be able to coordinate and plan fundraisers and events for the school.
  4. You will be part of the shared decision making of the School Leadership Team (SLT) as an elected parent.
  5. You will represent the parents and the school in district meetings.
  6. You will have the full support of the Parent Coordinator (that's me!) while executing your duties as an Executive Board Member.

• JOIN US | Parent Association (Expedited) Elections 2nd Attempt

  Pelham Gardens Middle School Parents,

   

  Seeing as how we didn't have the quorum for the elections on October 27th, we will make a second attempt to complete the expedited elections.  We will hold our 2nd attempt at expedited elections on Thursday, November 10, 2022 @ 6:00pm.

   

  If we do not successfully elect a president, treasurer and secretary for the executive board of the parent association, this could have negative effects on our school.

• URGENT: Don't Let Our School Lose More Funding

  Did you know that our school lost 30% of its budget for the 2022-2023 school year?  Schools across NYC have lost up to 54% of their budget creating a shortfall of resources for students.  One of the reasons for this reduction in school budgets is lower attendance numbers in schools across the city.  Another reason schools are losing funding is by not having an active Parent Association elected for the new school year.  

   

  Functional and active Parent Associations/Parent-Teacher Associations are a measure of parent involvement in schools just like student attendance is a measure of student participation in schools.  This is EXTREMELY important.  

   

  In May of this year, we failed to elect a new Executive Board of the Parent Association.  This caused our Parent Association to be labeled non-functional, which could lead to more budget cuts.  Join us on October 27, 2022 to elect a new Executive Board for our Parent Association and make sure that Pelham Gardens Middle School doesn't lose any more funding.

   

  First, Nominate Yourself or Another Parent For President, Treasurer or Secretary by completing the PA Nomination Form.  After you complete the form, you will need to Register For The Elections.
